Personal Development

STAND's Personal Development programs focus on universal human capacities—not ideology, not therapy, not self-help platitudes. We teach frameworks, practice skills, and develop perspectives through evidence-based methods and small-group learning.

For where we are:

The Age of Thinking Machines
The Age of Thinking Machines

You didn't choose to live through an AI revolution. But here you are.

Every click, comment, dwell time, and reaction trains the AIs in your life. Algorithms curate what you see, amplify cognitive biases, and shape what you think (unsettling, right?) Most of us are blissfully unaware - we lack foundational knowledge on how AIs work, the extent to which they manipulate us, and their role in shaping society.

Over four weeks, your group will read Raising AI by De Kai and explore cognitive bias, information disorder, and AI ethics. Each week includes a short reflective project—identifying your own biases, tracing neginformation, auditing your AI use, and imagining daily life 20 years from now. Your final deliverable: a personal AI ethics statement and behavior audit documenting what you’re consciously teaching the machines you interact with every day.

You'll move from: Passive AI-adjacent bystander → Informed, intentional participant in how AI gets raised

The Emotional Edge
The Emotional Edge

Stop being smart but stuck. Start connecting.

We’re facing a loneliness epidemic while AI automates technical skills. Emotional intelligence is the ultimate non-automatable competency. You’re brilliant but struggle to collaborate. You love people but can’t communicate effectively. You navigate life with the emotional intelligence of a well-intentioned teenager.

Learn the science of emotional intelligence and how it develops. Build emotional vocabulary beyond “good/bad/fine.” Practice active listening and empathy. Navigate conflict while maintaining relationships. Set boundaries without burning bridges. Repair after rupture.

You’ll Transform From: Limited emotional vocabulary and reactive patterns → Sophisticated emotional competence

Personal Development

Decision-Making in the Fog
Decision-Making in the Fog

Stop researching. Start choosing.

Post-pandemic life has destabilized previously “settled” decisions. The job market swings wildly. Industries transform overnight. The information environment has collapsed. You’re making career, financial, and life choices when the old playbooks don’t apply and you can’t trust expert consensus.

Learn decision-making frameworks that work WITH incomplete information, not despite it. Distinguish decisions deserving deliberation vs. speed. Build decision confidence when authoritative guidance is contested. Recognize that indecision itself is a choice with real costs.

You’ll Transform From: Decision paralysis and endless research → Purposeful choosing with acceptable risk

Personal Development

Truth Matters
Truth Matters

Your students trust TikTok over you. Fight back.

Teachers watch students believe conspiracy theories over curriculum, use AI to write papers, share exam answers via Discord, and dismiss credentialed experts while trusting random influencers. Post-COVID, the tacit contract between teachers and students has shattered.

Learn the Disciplines of Truth framework: how Science, Journalism, Law, Philosophy, Art, and Personal/Spiritual knowing each establish truth in their domains. Understand how agnotology (deliberate creation of ignorance) works. Teach truth literacy using pedagogical strategies that build discernment without indoctrination.

You’ll Transform From: Epistemological confusion and student resistance → Epistemological clarity with teaching frameworks

Personal Development

The Moral Reckoning
The Moral Reckoning

Stop defending beliefs you’ve never examined.

We’re living through intense moral polarization where people aren’t just disagreeing—they’re unable to understand how others could possibly hold different views. You navigate moral decisions using inherited beliefs you’ve never examined, leaving you either rigidly certain or paralyzed by relativism.

Learn the major moral frameworks (consequentialism, deontology, virtue ethics, care ethics). Identify the framework underlying any position—your own and others’. Articulate moral positions you disagree with in their strongest form. Navigate moral disagreement without collapsing into authoritarian certainty or nihilistic relativism.

You’ll Transform From: Operating on unexamined moral intuitions → Understanding your own moral reasoning

Personal Development

Change Is Social
Change Is Social

Stop buying fixes. Start building community.

Americans face an epidemic of modifiable health risks—smoking, excessive drinking, overeating, screen addiction—yet most individual change attempts fail within weeks. Research shows accessible, evidence-backed support groups offer cost-effective solutions, but they’re under-promoted in profit-driven systems.

Understand the science of why individual approaches often fail and group processes succeed. Critically evaluate behavior change products. Find and assess support groups. Recognize cultural messaging that normalizes unhealthy behaviors.

You’ll Transform From: Cycling through isolated, shame-based attempts → Informed, community-supported change strategies

Personal Development

Critical Thinking in the Age of AI
Critical Thinking in the Age of AI

Outsmart the algorithms trying to manipulate you.

Every scroll, click, and search is curated by algorithms designed to keep you engaged—not informed. Learn systematic tools to evaluate information when AI can generate perfect-looking content and misinformation explodes.

Master the SIFT method, lateral reading, and critical questioning before sharing or believing. Understand how recommendation algorithms manipulate your information diet and the psychology behind why misinformation works on everyone.

You'll Transform From: Feeling manipulated and overwhelmed → Equipped with systematic evaluation tools

Leading Learning Workshop
Leading Learning Workshop

Stop waiting for someone else to lead. You're ready now.

STAND's structured 4-week workshops prove that peer-led learning creates transformation—but only if trained facilitators exist to lead them. This isn't generic facilitation theory. You'll practice leading actual STAND workshops using our complete materials. Become a confident STAND workshop facilitator through practice, feedback, and community support

You'll Transform From "Workshop materials do the work themselves" → "Materials provide scaffolding; I create conditions where transformation becomes possible"
